About the Club...
This Web site has been put together for all
those who want to know more about the Aircooled RD Club. It should contain all
the information needed to muster you to join the club. How else will you find
out how to get that illusive Piranha electronic ignition??
The club is for people primarily with aircooled RD twins (and
50cc singles!!), but also anyone with an aircooled Yamaha twin of pre-RD vintage is
welcome. We have members with RDs ranging from the diminutive 125 through to
the torque monster 400, pre RD range aircooled including the YDS, YR and AS
range are also amongst the club ranks. The club caters for all interests
including those who want to lovingly restore to original, those who want to
modify and build Specials and those who race, be it road racing or sprint and
drag racing. Age is no object, our youngest member is a keen 14 year old, the
oldest in their 50's. Most members seem to be enjoying reliving their youth
when the RD was in it's heyday during the 70's
We have things happening all year round. Over
the summer months we have at least one big event organised per month from May
through to October, ranging from attending shows like the BMF Show and the
Classic & Motorcycle Mechanics Show, to track and sprint meetings and of
course the annual Rally which continues to go from strength to strength. All
year we have local meetings occuring on a monthly basis all round the UK.
To show our dedication to the RD, we are
affiliated to the BMF to protect the rights of motorcycle riders who want to
enjoy riding their classic mount.
The Aircooled RD Club
was started by Ric Naylor of Barnet in the UK. As the club grew at a enormous rate,
various tasks were handed out to other club members with five members currently active on
the committee and we still some vacanies to fill! The club
was started in May 1994 from an idea I had a year earlier. Having seen lots of RDs roaming
round London, most in very good nick, I wondered where the owners got their spares from. I
decided to set up the club to extract this information from them and also learn more about
the RDs for myself and provide the same information to the club members. After calling
many UK bike mags I had mentions appearing in a couple of them advertising the club. The
rest, as they say is history...
